HAPPY NEW YEAR!  All the best of health and happiness in 2012!   Let’s hope we get through January and February without much snow!  While we’re talking about snow, a reminder to all to be certain walkways are shoveled and clear. Make certain your steps are free of ice. While the snow may be everywhere, when shoveling do  not throw snow into the streets. During these times, be sure your trash bin is in a clear area and accessible to the automated arm on the trash truck. If you have any questions, contact the DPW at 978-436-9178.  Speaking about trash, please refer to the  Residential Recycling and Trash Collection  Guide. Keep it handy as it is chock full of information on Trash Collection and Recycling as well as important telephone numbers. The Guide is also online at the DPW website:  www.billericadpw.org – or by calling the DPW to request a copy.   On February 16th, 2012, The Billerica Community Alliance will sponsor the 8th Annual  Sweetheart Dinner Dance at the Billerica Lodge of Elks. This event celebrates couples who have been married for 50 years or more. It is truly a wonderful evening and includes a full sit-down dinner, live music, corsages, commemorative photographs and transportation for those who need it. All of this is provided at no cost to those who attend! In 2011, seventy-eight couples participated. In addition to the dinner and dancing, couples receive a blessing from local clergy and renew their vows as a group during the course of the evening. If you’re married 50 years or more and would like to attend, please contact Pat Zapert at 978-667-4174 before February 1st, 2012 to reserve seating.   Finally, beat the Winter Blues! Think about visiting our Council On Aging. There are many programs offered by our vibrant and active Council on Aging – find new friends or reconnect with former friends and neighbors. The COA has something for everyone! For more information on COA programs, contact the Billerica Council on Aging at 978-671-0916. For a listing of all COA activities, look for the COA’s monthly newsletter,  The Outlook, which can be found at the Senior Center, Town Hall, the Library and other locations in Town.
